Battle of Jakku is set 29 years before the events of The Force Awakens.
Star Wars Battlefront gets its first expansion today, December 1, with Battle of Jakku. The DLC is available now for people who preordered Battlefront and will launch for everyone else on December 8. In all cases, the content is free and is just the first of many expansions coming to the sci-fi shooter over time.
Battle of Jakku is set 29 years before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens during a “pivotal moment” when the New Republic battles against Imperial forces on the desert planet of Jakku. It takes place in the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor and provides a first look at the Jakku that movie-goers will see in The Force Awakens.
The expansion introduces not only the new Jakku map, but also a 40-player mode called Turning Point. To see the map and mode in action, check out the video above.
Even more DLC is coming to Battlefront in 2016 when the first of the game’s four paid expansion packs is slated to arrive. In addition to paid content, EA will offer up new maps and modes for free to all players.
Battlefront launched on November 17 for PC, Xbox One, andPlayStation 4. The game broke records for publisher Electronic Arts, though it underperformed at GameStop. In other news, the lead singer of the band Breaking Benjamin really, really hates Battlefront. Multiple sequels are reportedly also on the way.
