Ubisoft has been teasing a big announcement on their Official Twitch Livestream, and rumors were swirling that it may be The Division related. They were right. Looks like Ubisoft has announced the sequel to the dystopian urban game.
Details are very scarce at this point. You can watch the Ubisoft Twitch Stream here: https://www.twitch.tv/thedivisiongame
Looks like a German-language business news site leaked the update, and a single image of the new logo can be found via the Ubisoft blog currently.
Ubisoft later confirmed this leak and announced the title will be Ubisoft’s next big project. Massive is leading, but will this project includes five other studios: Ubisoft Annecy, Redstorm, Reflections, Ubisoft Bucharest and Ubisoft Shanghai.
Currently, no launch date, price, or platforms were announced. The Division did appear on the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 platforms. So at this time, we can only assume they’ll return. Yet, nothing is confirmed.
The Division will receive two more title updates, with a specific set of achievements (called “Crests”) coming in June that will allow players to unlock rewards in The Division 2. There is no confirmation if progress from The Division will transfer to The Division 2 at this time.
Creative Director at Massive stated this at the announcement, “It wasn’t an easy decision, but there are so many stories and so many experiences that we wanted to explore within the world of The Division that we felt a sequel was the best way to explore these things,” he said.
Mathias Karlson, the game director, added that “It’s an incredible opportunity to take all of that learning, all of that experience from what The Division is today and put it into a new game.”
The only thing confirmed at this point is this upcoming E3 will be where Ubisoft gives us more details on the project.
