Today, indie developer Behold Studios announces the release of the free “Director’s Cut” update for Chroma Squad on PC, Mac and Linux.

Chroma Squad is a tactical RPG about five stunt actors who decide to quit their jobs and start their own Power Rangers-inspired TV show! Cast actors, purchase equipment and upgrades for your studio, craft weapons and giant Mechas out of cardboard and duct tape.

The “Director’s Cut” free update to Chroma Squad brings long-awaited new features and improvements to the game, which were previously available only on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions.

Chroma Squad is currently available on PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Android, and iOS.

Behold Studios is also releasing its new game “Galaxy of Pen and Paper” this month, July 27th, for PC/Mac/Linux/iOS/Android.

“Director’s Cut” Features:

  • New Game+- The adventure no longer ends after the credits roll – with the “New Game+” and “New Game++” features you can keep playing with your current party, facing procedurally generated enemies and goals on the episodes, crafting new items, and perhaps making different story choices that could lead you to unexplored paths!
  • Revamped Mecha Fights – The Mecha Fights have been completely revamped to be faster and more fun, and the random chances were replaced by new reflex mini-games!
  • New “Heroic” Difficulty – Difficulty levels have been completely rebalanced to offer a more customizable experience, including a new super-hard mode called “Heroic Difficulty”!
  • Revamped Encounter Balancing – We have also tweaked a few encounters in the game that were famously unfair or long (*cough cough* Mini-Kaiju Squad *cough cough*)!
  • Bug fixes and performance improvements – we also fixed some bugs and the game should be running smoother and faster overall!

Where’s Mahvel? Not on Evo’s Main Stage

Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite is not invited to Evo 2018 and the community is number crunching to figure out why.

Evo is The Evolution Championship Series, a fighting game tournament taking place in Las Vegas, which features players from around the world. There are main games that are televised and side tournament for leisure plays. It’s a place where casual and competitor players come together to cheer each other on or face each other side by side.

The eight games on the main stage at Evo 2018 are BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Tekken 7, Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition, Injustice 2, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2, Super Smash Bros 4 and Super Smash Bros Melee. This lineup is missing Marvel, one of the most anticipated games of 2017.

When fans asked, ‘When’s Mahvel?’ Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cueller, tournament organizer of Evo, answered that Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite would not make it to the main stage lineup for Evo 2018 during a Twitch livestream.

Mr. Wizard said,

“We know [MvCI] was on a slippery slope and it had a lot of competition going forward and it just kind of… fizzled.”

He let it be known that he’s not downing MVC:I and Marvel has been with Evo for 15 years and eight of those Marvel was featured as a main stage game.

Mark “MarkMan” Julio also said that it would be hard to support a game that wasn’t bringing in numbers.

However, here are some numbers that prove that Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite is not bringing consistent players.

MvC:I is the second most entered tournament at the SoCal Regionals 2017 with 170 entrants. Third at the Fall Classic 2017 with 99 entrants. Fifth at DreamHack Denver 2017 with 84 entrants, fourth at Canada Cup 2017 with 169 entrants, third at NEC 18 with 163, fifth, once again at Kumite in Tennessee 2018 and fourth at Frosty Faustings X with 140. MvC:I also made it to Evo Japan 2018 with 102 entrants.

“But I don’t think people are playing it, and that’s the problem. We’ve always had to support games that people actually play, ” said Mr. Wizard.

Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite released Sept. 17, 2017. According to Capcom’s financial reports MVC:I sold one million copies from its release until December.

Compared to DragonBall FighterZ (DBFZ) sold which has sold one million copies as of February 1, MVC:I fell behind. These numbers could be a contributing factor to why MVC:I isn’t on the main stage of Evo this year. DBFZ, is on the main stage plus the producer, Tomoko Hiroki, is entering the tournament herself. The game is getting a lot of hype and support. Another thing that may be getting under Marvel players are feeling cheated is because pieces of the FGC don’t feel like any Super Smash Bros are a legit fighting game. So to see two Super Smash games on stage is having them feel some type of way. Truthfully, too many people watch, play and sign up for Smash.

Capcom isn’t getting much support to MVC:I. All of the focus could be on Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. MVC:I has not been given any patches or updates or new characters.

The last Marvel vs Capcom game released in 2011. The community was very excited when MVC:I debuted at E3 2017. Yes, the Fighting Game Community (FGC) had a lot to say about ChunLi’s face but, that was taken care of by Capcom after the FGC caused a ruckus. Another concern of the players is the lack of X-Men or Fantastic Four characters.

Although MVC:I is not on the main stage there will be side tournaments. The next thing potential move for MVC:I is to be put in the Capcom Pro Tour; we’ll find out on Feb. 19.

Frosty Faustings 2018

Image result for Frosty Faustings 2018

Last year Frosty Faustings had about 1,000 attendees this year it’s 1,300 spectators including international players from Japan and Europe with many pro players in attendance such as Punk, Sonic Fox, and Wolkrone.

The talent really showed up and showed out this year. Starting with that main event Guilty Gear. Started with over 250 competitors it all comes down to the top 4 which included LostSoul, Doren2k, PepperySpalsh & BjornSonOfBear taking it all.

Two things happened last year that led to a bigger turnout. 2017 is the first year Frostys decided to add over 25 games. And this was the first Frostys held in Elmhurst. Thus far it’s been held in Northbrook. Moving the venue and adding the games made attendance jump pretty high. Frostys went from having only 10 games to 30, it’s come along way since it was being held at Nickle City. Another touch to Frostys are the different streams featuring local commentators brings a lot of hype. It’s nice to see people who got their start at Frostys like Eli now be featured at Evo calling matches. People who come out year after year and show their dedication is what fighting games are about like TeamSpooky.

Unique games like Windjammers and Puyo Puyo Tetris show that Frostys is catering to a niche market. There aren’t many tournaments for Windjammers and providing a tournament for this game creates inclusion. And the community is grateful for it and will go the distance. For example, Keikun traveled from France for games like Windjammers and Super Street Fighter Turbo. And LatinoFlava dropped in from Mexico to compete in Windjammers. Not only are people traveling for indie games but majors as well. Teresa flew from Japan to compete in Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 and placed in top 8. Windjammers is the most intense game of frisbee golf ever played. There are 6 characters to choose from, 5 different modes including local versus an online ranked match and six different stages to choose from. It’s available on PS4 and PS Vita now.

Super Street Fighter Turbo is another unique title that brought the community out with 48 entrants. The top 4 is comprised of Midwest players like Hood Pope, Munn3y, ThatArchVillan and immortal at number one. CEO Jebailey gets an honorable mention at 13th for being a part of and supporting the community.

Tekken 7  wasn’t at Frosty Faustings last year and the community attended and showed love with 192 entrants. The Tekken top 2 feels like a repeat of Kumite 2018. Cuddle_Core and Mak face off once again but this time Mak takes first with Cuddle_Core in second, LTrain in third and Jody Tha Great in fourth.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition had the second biggest entries with 240 competitors. Punk is in the top 4 but did not win it all. The Cool Kid 93, from Chicago, in third. Squall in second and Mo-Joe in first.

Killer Instinct’s top 4, a Chicago’s very own and a Midwest favorite, consisted of Pink Diamond, ILLusion, Nicky and Amenty taking first.

Now for the DP!

There are a few things I’d like to point out about Frosty’s is that its diversity and inclusion is growing rapidly. This year there are a lot more parents coming to support their kids but not 15 and 26-year-old like 30 something-year-olds. Callisto’s mom definitely showed her support. I spoke to a dad who knew nothing about Pokken but he could show me his son and who he’s playing against.

Many women whether they were cosplaying, a part of Artist Alley, spectating or competing it’s always nice to more women at tournaments. My favorite part is the amount of Black Girl Gamers that came to compete. Destiny, in Super Street Fighter Turbo. Pink Diamond in Killer Instinct, Briana in Street Fighter V, Cuddle_Core in Tekken 7.

Monster Hunter: World Out Now For PS4 And Xbox One

PC Release Coming Fall 2018

Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, released Monster Hunter: World™ for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and the family of Xbox One devices including Xbox One X today, making this the first global simultaneous release for the 40 million unit-selling action RPG series. A PC release will follow in Fall 2018. In Monster Hunter: World, players will take on larger-than-life monsters in a variety of vast living, breathing ecosystems either solo or with up to three other hunters via online co-op, now with both a global player pool and mid-quest drop-in functionality for the first time in the series.

In Monster Hunter: World, follow the journey of the elder dragons as they begin their once a decade migration across the sea to a land known as the New World in an event referred to by inhabitants as the Elder Crossing. As part of the Guild’s Research Commission, players must embark on a grand journey to this massive, mysterious land and uncover the secrets behind this phenomenon. As hunters set out on their quests, the Commission’s sights are set on Zorah Magdaros, a colossal elder dragon that rises from the earth like a volcano.

The series’ rewarding skill-based progression and robust crafting system is at the heart of the game. With the most accessible and seamless gameplay experience in the series to date, players can take on quests to slay increasingly more challenging and dangerous monsters in the food chain in order to earn materials that can be used to craft stronger weapons and armor with unique abilities based on their fallen foes. The landscape and its diverse inhabitants play a critical role during the hunt as players can strategically use the surrounding environment and wildlife to their advantage. Hunters can now move freely across map areas and use their cunning to draw a monster into a tangle of vines and unleash a flurry of attacks while it’s vulnerable, or lure it into a more fearsome creature’s domain to encourage a territorial face-off that yields massive damage to the target.

Monster Hunter: World will continue to support the community with a bevy of free post-launch content, including PlayStation®4 exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn™ collaboration event quests that will let players earn special materials that can be forged into unique themed equipment. Hunters can see their Palico companions look like a machine from Horizon Zero Dawn through quests available starting today through February 8th. The young machine hunter Aloy also comes to life in Monster Hunter: World with her bow and full armor set through quests available from February 28th through March 5th. In addition to special event quests, the first major title content update will be available in Spring 2018, which will add the fan-favorite Deviljho monster and more.
